Subject Title ANIMAL CARE

Qualification BTEC FIRST DIPLOMA IN ANIMAL CARE

Equivalent to 4 X GCSE

Location Castle College, Sheffield and Rother Valley College, Rotherham.

Course Description
A two-year course dealing with animal care (including approach & handling, animal housing and animal nutrition), animal welfare, animal health, animal nursing and animal biology. Students will also need to complete 2 x 3 week blocks of work placement, in order to gain a range of experience in the animal care industry.

How is the course assessed?
There are no traditional exams; the course is assessed by continuous assessment. This is done in a variety of ways, for example, presentations, assignments and practical activities.

What is the exam board?
The exam board is EDEXECEL

Entry Requirements
A strong commitment to studying and working within the animal care industry.

Skills Gained
- The ability to handle a range of animals safely and correctly.
- Knowledge and understanding of animal care at level 2.
- The ability to research and complete assessments.

Opportunities
After the course, you may be able to gain employment in pet shops, stables, catteries, kennels and rescue establishments. If you achieve merits and distinctions in your course work, you should be able to progress onto the BTEC National Diploma in Animal Management.
