Applied GCSEs

Applied GCSEs are equivalent to 2 GCSEs as they take twice the time to complete, and can be awarded at A-C and D-G.
These subjects are often taught through case studies, group projects, practical activities and trips to employers giving them a real understanding of the occupational area they are studying.
These qualifications are most suited to pupils at GCSE A*-C level.

Sheffield schools deliver a range of GCSEs in vocational subjects including:
-Art and Design
-Business
-Engineering
-Health and Social Care
-Information and Communication Technology
-Leisure and Tourism
-Manufacturing
-Science

These qualifications are broken down into 3 units, each worth a third of the total marks. Two units include a portfolio of coursework with the third varying depending on which exam board the school has chosen. The overall grade for the qualification is based on the total results for all three units.
