BTECs
These courses offer a similar framework to the GNVQ with options being available from entry level. It is suggested that the BTEC will replace the GNVQ options.
These qualifications are broken down into six units that include three core subjects and three optional.
They are assessed by pupils collecting a portfolio of evidence for each unit, which are marked by an external verifier. These will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Current options in Sheffield include:
- BTEC Performing Arts First Certificate - equivalent to 4 GCSEs Grade A*-C
- BTEC Retail and Distribution First Diploma - delivered by the Source at Meadowhall - equivalent to 4 GCSEs
Grade A*-C
- BTEC Customer Service Award - delivered by the Source at Meadowhall - equivalent to 4 GCSEs Grade D-G
- BTEC Certificate and BTEC First in Construction at the Construction Design Centre and Sheaf Training
