NVQs National Vocational Qualications have been available in the workplace for many years, but were created for Y10 in September 2004. Most of the NVQ courses delivered in Sheffield are provided off site with a training provider or at a local college. This ensures that young people are given the best vocational training available by experienced staff in a simulated work environment. For example, Catering and Hospitality training is held at Sheffield College or Sheaf training which both have industry standard kitchens for young people to learn cooking, food preparation, Health and Safety and team working skills. To achieve a full NVQ Level 1 qualification pupils need to gain experience in the work place. Assessment is based on portfolio evidence collected by the pupil over the course of the two years. These courses are a good preparation for Apprenticeship programmes. | |||||||||||||
