OCR ICT Systems Support lesson

OCR iPRO Manual download

This manual has been developed over three years of iPro work experience placements. It is designed for the use of learners, working with employers and teachers. The purpose of the work experience part of the iPro course is to help school based learners see how the things they are learning are applied in the real world of IT systems in all sorts of work places. Remember that the iPro course is designed for people already working with IT, so it is very challenging for school based learners whose only real experience is in the classroom or on their home computer.

The work experience is focused on seeing how the technical knowledge gained in their initial Cisco IT Essentials unit is applied in a real IT support situation, involving real users, customers and business demands. The key is the support – not the technology – seeing how IT teams support internal and external customers on a daily basis. The second iPro course unit is about Customer Support so there is plenty of opportunity to apply this experience back in the classroom. In fact many of the tasks proposed here are mapped directly on to that unit.

Last but not least, we’d like to emphasise the value of feedback – from students, employers and teachers – so we can improve the list of tasks and the overall work experience in coming years. This course focused and task based approach is by no means the usual approach to school age work experience, most of which is of a very general nature. However, iPro course results and employer feedback suggest this approach works well for everyone – but it’s only as good as we make it together, so please let us know your ideas and your criticisms!
